North Tyneside Council profile |
North Tyneside is on the north bank of the River Tyne in Tyne and Wear and has a stunning coastline stretching up to Northumberland. The Borough is an area of sharp contrasts where suburbs meet sea and tradition meets innovation. The coastline, including Whitley Bay and Tynemouth, is popular with visitors and is a desirable place to live. North Shields, at the mouth of the Tyne, is a thriving town and home to the Fish Quay, traditionally a major centre for the fishing industry and now undergoing major regeneration. Wallsend is the eastern gateway to Hadrian's Wall and has been associated with the marine industry over many decades. In the centre of the borough is a major business development corridor boasting the largest business park in the UK. Rail, road and the rapid link Metro all provide excellent transport communications, including to neighbouring Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead. |
