About us:

Re Legal is a specialist legal recruitment consultancy based in Manchester. Our founding consultants are all lawyers and are all from the North. Our intention is to provide a service of the highest quality designed by lawyers for lawyers.

We combine extensive recruitment experience with recent experience in private practice at senior solicitor and partner level.

Our aim is to be the consultants that lawyers, both senior and junior, can turn to for a professional and impartial advice. We will be honest, discreet and knowledgeable.

Our service is tailored to individuals. It is highly consultative and - because of our backgrounds - we hope you will feel that you are in safe hands.

Our Consultants:

- Rod Ellis

Rod qualified as a solicitor in 1993 with Cobbetts in Manchester where he practised as a property lawyer. Latterly, and just prior to setting up Re Legal, he held a partnership at Ricksons Solicitors (now DWF) in Manchester.

Rod also spent 9 years in recruitment during which time he managed the Manchester office of Hudson. He has worked in both the Leeds and Manchester markets.

A career highlight was the 3 years Rod spent in Australia where he was recruited to set up and manage the Australasian offices of Hays Legal, based in Sydney. He successfully set up and managed 5 offices in Australia and New Zealand before returning home to Manchester in 2004.

His extensive experience includes recruiting for both in house and private practice positions, particularly at senior levels.

Hobbies include being a Manchester United fan, playing Rugby Union - on bright and sunny days only (former professional player with Manchester FC) - and sports in general.

- Andrea Garratt

Andrea qualified as a solicitor in 1990. She trained in London with Lovells and spent time in their London and New York offices, mainly advising clients in the insurance industry.

Although Andrea is from Manchester, she has spent the last 8 years in Sydney practising as a senior solicitor, mainly with Mallesons Stephen Jacques – the premier Australian Law Firm. Most recently, she worked at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu in Sydney as Senior Counsel and Head of Litigation, reporting directly to the General Counsel.

She has now settled back in the UK with her partner and is an avid Manchester City fan. She has been known to fly across the world for important games!

Andrea is currently on maternity leave.

- Louisa Hill

Louisa trained in London with Barlow Lyde & Gilbert and subsequently worked as a professional indemnity lawyer for Addleshaw Goddard and Hill Dickinson.

After qualifying, Louisa relocated to the North-West to work for Addleshaw Goddard in Manchester.  She then moved to Hill Dickinson and spent time in both the Manchester and Liverpool offices practising professional indemnity, focusing particularly on defending solicitors.

Louisa joined Re Legal in summer 2007 and specialises in recruiting for private practice positions across the North-West.  She enjoys drinking wine, running and playing golf.

- Tony Seymour

Following an undergraduate and masters’ degree in law at Durham University, Tony completed his training contract with the Manchester office of Cobbetts LLP. During this time, he was seconded to McDermott Will & Emery, where he practiced European trade law in Brussels before returning to the UK to qualify as a corporate lawyer. On admission, he joined the Leeds office of Eversheds LLP where he specialised in mergers and acquisitions whilst also maintaining an active involvement in the firm’s pro bono scheme helping worthy projects in the local community.

Tony joined the Re Legal team in March 2008 where he focuses on placing lawyers into in-house roles.

Tony’s main interests are writing, stand up comedy and food and drink.

- Gaynor Nellies

Gaynor joined the Re Legal team in September 2008.

She was previously a manager at the Manchester office of Eversheds LLP where she ran the operational aspects of the firm’s real estate practice group.

Prior to this, Gaynor did property and insolvency fee earning work at the Manchester office of Hammonds LLP, before assisting in the setting up of a small niche practice for the insolvency market.

Gaynor’s main interests are equestrianism and food and drink.

Gaynor manages the Re Legal office.

Our service

Having practised as lawyers ourselves, it is clear to us that good lawyers at all levels can have a number of options when it comes to their career.

We also understand that lawyers have busy lives, which are often centred around their clients, their firm and their families - with the result that they can forget to focus on what is best for them. This is where we come into our own.

Our local network of contacts and clients in the North runs deep and relationships have been built over a number of years. We have our “finger on the pulse” and we are long standing trusted advisors – we believe we can give you the information you need to assess your career options properly.

Depending on your seniority the process of deciding whether to move can be involved and, if you are a partner, it can be lengthy and emotionally fraught.

We aim to help you assess where you are in the market. Can you achieve your personal goals at your current firm or is that not possible given personalities in your department or the way the firm is managed?

There are many reasons to contemplate a move:

- Money: Will the short term fix of a pay rise solve your issues – maybe not?
- Career Development: Despite good PR is the firm you are contemplating really as good as they say, which part of what they say is a gimmick?
- Quality of Life: Is it possible to move to a smaller firm and get the same quality of work and the same financial prospects?
- Prospects: Is a vacancy or a firm really going to provide you with a solution or will you hit the same problem?
- Personality: Do you want to know your new bosses’ history and reputation?

Each individual situation is different and the questions are complex – only with true market knowledge and contacts can they be answered.

We are immersed all day, every day in the legal recruitment market and the information and experience we possess can be invaluable. Our local market knowledge can help you establish whether your best option is to preserve the status quo and stay put or to consider moving on to pastures new. We believe we can help you establish the best course of action.

We believe face to face communication and trust are of paramount importance. We are always happy to meet on a confidential basis – we will never provide your details or send your CV to clients without your express permission - and with no strings attached.

Appreciating the constraints of your busy lives, we are available outside normal office hours to assist you and advise on all aspects of a potential career change.

We invest heavily in technology and support and we are members of the Recruitment & Employers’ Confederation, which demands high standards of ethics and process.
