The Department is a key central service of the council, responsible for providing practical legal advice, together with a comprehensive range of legal and related services to the officers and councillors of the borough. These include procurement and other specialist legal services, the handling of ombudsman, probity and monitoring officer issues for the authority, and electoral registration and the management of elections.
Our legal teams comprise solicitors, legal executives and support staff with extensive legal experience, who together help us achieve our mission “To provide and obtain the best value in legal, electoral and related services”. And in return we ensure that all our staff are well looked after, by providing regular supervision and file reviews, giving people the chance to specialise in particular areas of interest, and even offering opportunities for home working.
