Although it can trace its roots back to 1788, the modern day Keeble Hawson is a firm built through a number of mergers over the past decade. In 1996, the firm merged with fellow Sheffield practice Rodgers & Howe. Then, in 1998, it made its entry into the Leeds market by acquiring 6-partner insolvency firm RC Moorhouse & Co. It followed this up in 2000 by acquiring niche corporate finance practice James Kendall.

Now with 57 qualified lawyers and 30 other fee-earners based in its offices in Sheffield and Leeds, Keeble Hawson offers a wide range of services across the range of commercial disciplines as well as a private client service covering tax and trusts and family law and a renowned clinical negligence practice.

Although its biggest single practice area is personal injury, the firm has developed a sector focus, targeting 5 broad areas – small-to-medium sized businesses, manufacturing and technology, banking, charities and housing/building developers – on which to focus its efforts.

Through James Kendall, Keeble Hawson has had a long-running relationship with Yorkshire Enterprise Limited. Originally created 20 years ago by the former West Yorkshire Metropolitan County Council and named the West Yorkshire Enterprise Board, the Yorkshire Enterprise is now a privatised venture capital company.

This on-going arrangement has brought the firm into contact with a range of SMEs that owe their existence to Yorkshire Enterprise and has also helped the firm to become one of the first law firms (alongside Clifford Chance, Eversheds, and Dickinson Dees) to advise on the Government’s regional venture capital funds.

We have embarked on a significant expansion policy and that will continue on a broad front” says partner Tony Gregory. “Our pay structure rivals anyone’s and in exchange we are looking for the best people who can drive our business forward.
