Lee & Priestley
No of Partners: 13
No of Assistant Solicitors: 28
Other Fee-earners: 9
In its own words "a progressive and forward thinking practice”, Lee & Priestley has been slowly evolving into a solid commercial practice and leaving behind some of the more ‘High Street’ elements of its practice.
Corporate and commercial now accounts for more than half of the firm’s workload and it has recently recruited Addleshaw Goddard partner Jonathan Priestley (and grandson of the firm’s founder) to enhance its capability in corporate finance, venture capital and private equity.
The firm has also developed expertise in banking, commercial property, insolvency and employment law as it seeks to service its core client base of owner-managed business and smaller quoted companies.
Areas such as low-level conveyancing and personal injury have taken a back seat. However, the firm is committed to retaining its clinical negligence practice and has recently recruited more lawyers in its private client department, which advises on tax, wills and trusts. It also has a strong family law practice, with a distinct specialism in childcare.
Lee & Priestley originated in Bradford, but its 38 fee-earners are now split fairly evenly between its offices in its hometown of Bradford and in Leeds. It expects most of its future growth will take place in Leeds.
In the recruitment market, the firm looks for “able individuals who can meet clients’ needs in terms of good communication and a practical approach to legal issues.”
