Alongside Ledingham Chalmers, Aberdeen stalwarts Paull & Williamsons dominate the commercial legal market in the north-east of Scotland.
Given its location, the firm has an evitable bias towards the oil and gas industry, having acted on some of the biggest transactions and disputes in North Sea oil, including the litigation which followed the Piper Alpha disaster. However, the 98 fee-earners (including 29 partners) provide a full range of commercial services to corporate clients in the energy sector as well as banking, commercial property, corporate and commercial law, employment, health and safety, IP, litigation and planning and environmental law. The firm has a team based in Edinburgh for Court of Session business. It also offers a range of disciplines to private individuals – tax, trusts and estates, family law, residential conveyancing and estate agency – and an agricultural, game and fisheries practice.
For prospective candidates, the firm promises a quality career in a quality environment which encourages personal development and team-work. In return, they expect to see a strong work ethic and enthusiasm. English-qualified lawyers are also welcome, but will be expected to dual-qualify in due course.
Above all, commitment to client care is key.
“Paull & Williamsons has grown steadily since its formation over 100 years ago through a commitment to our clients and a belief in continual improvement and development,” says Senior Partner, G.Bruce Smith.
“Those of us who work for the firm have a responsibility to continue this tradition to the maximum benefit of all our clients.”
