Locum Contracts Associate

Venn Group Legal Division is excited to be recruiting for a part-time Locum Contracts Associate to join a leading public sector organisation based in the South West.

Our client is one of the countries most established and well regarded educational and research bodies with a large legal team, one that is continuously growing in size and expertise. They seek a pragmatic Contracts Associate who is familiar with legal contracts to provide support to the Contracts Managers.

This contract is offered on a part-time locum basis for a 10 week period. The ideal candidate should be able to manage a continual load of around 30 – 40 cases with an expectation to initiate or respond to each new event / action in any of them by the end of their next working day. It is essential that the candidate is organised and adept at handling a significant volume quickly.

Duties will include although are not limited to:

• Assessing draft formal research and consultancy contracts received from external funders and partner organisations, and proposing alternative clauses to those at variance with the organisation’s usual requirements
• Creating new contract documents based on precedents and templates
• Arriving at contractual terms and conditions for each individual contract that balance, within guidelines, risk against commercial and intellectual benefit to the organisation
• Negotiating publication and commercial use of use of research results, and limiting the organisation’s exposure to liabilities
• Commenting to the Contract Managers on proposed contract terms and conditions in comparison to the organisation’s precedent agreements

An hourly rate of £20 - £25 per hour is offered for the successful candidate.
