Our Client
A leading global corporation and renowned brand are looking to appoint a Chief Privacy, Senior Counsel based in London or East Midlands.

 

The Role
The Chief Privacy Officer, Senior Counsel will oversee the strategy and implementation of the company's global privacy & data protection programme, as a key part of the global ethics & compliance programme. The CPO will also serve as lead privacy counsel for the company.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead privacy counsel to global functions in connection with business activities, manage outside privacy counsel and support the professional development of legal colleagues in this area
  • Lead strategy and implementation of the company's global privacy & data protection policy and related procedures, including notice and consent requirements, vendor, due diligence, etc.
  • Conduct formal and informal privacy risk assessments from time to time to ensure the company's resources in this area are appropriately targeted against the risks
  • Support development of programme metrics, monitoring, auditing, and other controls in this area, through strategic inputs and implementation
  • Present to various governing bodies, including committees of senior management at global and regional levels
  • Lead the company's privacy leadership committee to ensure the functions and general management supports the efforts of the programme and have an opportunity to influence its direction and implementation
  • Support internal investigations, as required, together with the information security team, manage data breach incidents and any required breach notifications, and any required remediation

 

About You

  • Five years or more dedicated privacy compliance experience, preferably from within a multinational corporation
  • CIPP certified
  • Solid project management experience
  • Compliance risk assessment, risk management or audit experience
  • Licensed to practice law in good standing
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills with high level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Highest standards of ethics and professional integrity
  • Experience and understanding of working in a complex global environment, including sensitivity to varying cultures and backgrounds
  • Available for international travel, as needed
