Our client is a law firm with offices located in the UK, Europe and the Middle East. Their aim is to become the leading Law firm combining specialist business law and private wealth advice internationally. They have over 1000 staff, which includes over 150 Partners and approximately 40 employees within the Finance team.

They are looking for a Partnership Accountant who will be primarily responsible for all aspects of partnership accounting including direct liaison with partners on their current accounts, drawings and tax affairs.

The successful candidate will additionally act as a key liaison point for partners in the overseas offices and the local accountants responsible for statutory reporting and compliance. As a key member of the finance team, the role will also contribute to ad hoc projects from time to time and assisting the Financial Controller.

Responsibilities

Liaison point for all partners’ tax & financial affairs with the firm. 

Responsibility for the calculation and preparation of partner drawings payments, and profit sharing system. Work with external advisors on the preparation of annual partnership tax computation.

Preparation of annual partner tax reserving calculations and assisting with the bi-annual tax payments, annual and ad-hoc profit-sharing calculations, and annual partner current, current tax & deferred tax statements.

Administration of partner capital and accounting. Dealing with ad-hoc partner requests such as mortgage reference letters and illustrative personal cash flow forecasts.

Liaison with overseas office partners and external accountants on statutory reporting and compliance.

Acting as one of the key contacts (with the CFO and FC) for HMRC Relationship Director, tax advisors and partners’ accountants on tax matters.

Assistance with preparation of VAT returns for UK and overseas offices. Assistance with other HMRC reporting requirements including the PAYE settlement agreement.

Assistance with calculating payments due to consultants and or ex/partners. Assistance with the firm’s cash flow forecasting in relation to partner and tax payments.

Preparation and posting of monthly journals in conjunction with the Management Accountants. Preparation of year end journals for profit allocation, tax and capital.

Ad hoc projects and duties from time to time.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will have experience of partnership accounting and tax affairs including some knowledge of partnership tax, preferably in a law firm.

The candidate should be comfortable dealing face to face with partners in a measured and diplomatic way including the ability to explain why sometimes things are not possible. In addition, the candidate should have a keen attention to detail, be able to work under pressure and prioritise conflicting requirements effectively.
