Our clients are a leading South West law firm
They are looking to recruit an experienced Residential Conveyancer for their Plymouth office
This is a permanent full time position
Main purposes of role
- Directly handle a caseload of residential conveyancing cases
- Develop relationships with existing and new referrers and clients to win new work
- Be profitable and largely self-sufficient
- Provide cover when fee earners are on holiday or absent
- Assist other members of the Residential Conveyancing team in tasks where appropriate
This will include but will not be limited to the main responsibilities given below
Key tasks
The conveyancer is expected to use a high degree of self-management and initiative.
- Undertake fee-earning work with their own file caseload
- Able to open, conduct and close new matters with minimal supervision
- Prepare standard & non-standard correspondence and documents through word processing
- Develop relationships with new and existing clients and referrers
- Market themselves and the partnership to win new work
- Liaise with clients, contacts and estate agents by telephone and in writing
- Provide holiday and absence cover
- Provide guidance to secretaries when required to do so
- Ensure the confidentiality of all the firm’s and clients’ documentation and information
- Financial control with particular regard to cashflow control through collection of monies on account and billing procedures
- Attendance at departmental meetings, leading by example with contributions made at and subsequent to such events.
- Undertake any specific training when required to do so and overall to have a responsibility towards self-development
- Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time
Required skills, knowledge and experience - Essential
- An experienced Residential Conveyancing practitioner with a proven track record in terms of billing and chargeable hours and at least 3 years current residential conveyancing experience
- Able to perform fee earning work accurately, reliably and in accordance with the firm’s quality and risk management procedures LEXCEL
- Possessing good organisational skills, a high degree of initiative and able to prioritise tasks effectively
- Excellent spoken English, numeracy and literacy. A confident telephone manner with good interpersonal skills
- High integrity and high energy; able to demonstrate a high level of customer care and sets quality as a prime objective in everything s/he does
- Self sufficient in terms of typing and secretarial skills; fully conversant with Word and Outlook and used to working with computerised case management systems
- Able to send, forward and respond to e-mails with or without attachments, conduct research on internet and ensure proper filing of all data
- Well presented, friendly and approachable. A pleasant but assertive manner in dealing with colleagues and clients
- Discrete and aware of the duties of confidentiality in respect of client and firm business
- Able to cope with changing levels of work, with the ability to multi-task, work well and remain calm under pressure, while displaying tact and resilience
