An international law firm based in Birmingham city centre are looking to recruit a Non-Contentious Construction Lawyer to join its leading Legal 500 rated team.

Client Details

The Birmingham office of an international law firm.

Description

Looking to work within a leading team on major construction projects for household clients?

We have spoken with a number of Construction Solicitors since the referendum result who have aired some concerns that there has been a drop-off of transactional work and have concerns around the pipeline for the team going forward. Whilst some of these lawyers are hesitant to make a move whilst there is some market uncertainty, others are now seriously thinking that now could be the right time to make a move.

We are working with a Construction team in Birmingham that has remained exceptionally busy and they have a large pipeline, with a lot of the projects that they are instructed on are long term. As a result, they have made the decision to add an extra solicitor to their team to focus on the transactional work. Whilst the team does do a split of contentious and non-contentious work, this recruit will have a heavily non-contentious bias. The team is happy to speak to solicitors who currently enjoy a mixed caseload but are looking to specialise.

The team is well known in the local Birmingham market and the firm also has a very large national Construction team. As a result, you will not only find yourself working on local project work but you will also act for clients on national and international projects. At the moment, a lot of the team's instructions are coming from within the energy, utility and transport sector, so this could suit somebody with a particular focus/interest in these sectors. Outside of these sectors, the team acts for a real mixed bag of clients from leading commercial developers to clients within the education sector.

The culture within the team is good - a lot of the solicitors and partners have worked at the firm for a long time. They can also offer you continuous training and personal development and they are happy to talk with you about this in more detail - they are committed to giving their lawyers clear career paths.

The team is busy but is large enough to ensure that there is a sufficient work/life balance.

Despite any concerns around market uncertainty, the team is very focused on this piece of recruitment as they are confident that they are very busy and the pipeline of work (not just in the short term) is healthy.

This is a great opportunity if you are looking to work within a busy team, a leading team and a team which will give you great exposure to excellent clients.

Profile

You will be a qualified construction solicitor, ideally with a bias / passion for non-contentious work. The team is more than happy to meet with lawyers who currently have a mixed caseload or a focus on contentious work but are now wanting to focus on projects work.

You are likely to have had at least 1 years' post qualification experience and the team will look at people with a range of PQE. It's unlikely this would suit anybody with less experience but they could be open minded for an outstanding candidate.

The right person is likely to work at a regional or national firm and looking to make the step up to a leading team. Or alternatively you could be at an equivalent firm looking for a fresh challenge.
