Based at our banking clients offices in Manchester, the specialist lending documentation team provides transactional support to corporate and commercial customers across the UK. It provides the backbone to the bank's UK operations and is instrumental in protecting the bank against risk.

The Lending Documentation department consists of experienced Banking and Finance Lawyers - paralegals and solicitors - and specialist corporate bankers. The team is responsible for producing facility/ amendment letters and ancillary documents in-house, supporting the relationship teams selling bank products to SME clients. The work is very diverse and covers a multitude of matters - such as, overdrafts, loans, real estate, small acquisitions etc.

The role demands robust legal review, drafting and negotiating experience. The Banking / Finance Lawyer will review instructions and documents from the relationship teams; interpret documents to eradicate discrepancies and/or obtain missing information; consider legal efficacy; conduct searches at Companies House and/or the Land Registry; consider regulatory implications and carry out analysis related to facilities and the consumer credit regime; consider operations issues arising from proposed terms/structures; draft legal documentation; understand the elements and mechanics of financial covenants; proactively manage the transactions; prepare documentation for review by an authorised checker, and/or undertake checks themselves; and then make all necessary amendments.

Our client seeks to recruit a Banking / Finance Lawyer who knows their way around facilities agreements and documents, overdrafts, term loans, securities, financial covenants etc., and knows how to draft the same. Initially you will be responsible for overseeing your own transactions however within 6-12 months it is envisaged you will also become an accredited checker, responsible for checking the documents and transactions of others.

Applicants for the role of Banking / Finance Lawyer are expected to have a minimum of 12 months' legal banking and/or finance experience. It is envisaged that you will be working for another financial institution/bank or within the banking / finance department of a leading commercial law firm.
