Prosecutions Locum

Prosecutions Lawyer required for a Local Authority based in Merseyside for an initial period of 3 months.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced prosecutions lawyer to join a fantastic local authority on a locum.

The successful prosecutions lawyer will be responsible for conducting a diverse range of enforcement and regulatory work which will include:

• Advocacy in Magistrates concerning usual local authority enforcement and regulatory work areas of Trading Standards, Environmental Health, Health & Safety, Food Hygiene, Planning, Benefits Fraud and Licensing
• Where cases are more complex, working with client department to instruct and support appropriate counsel
• Non school attendance work and prosecution where necessary;
• General advice concerning litigation queries with particular emphasis on Trading Standards, Environmental Health and Licensing;
• To attend Licensing Committee if necessary;
• To advise/provide support concerning Proceeds of Crime cases
• To advise upon civil matters and if necessary prepare papers and attend court in relation to interlocutory hearings and instruct counsel if necessary.

Prior experience gained within the public sector is desirable, although candidates from a private practice background are still encouraged to apply.
