International commercial firm seeks a PSL to Head up the Knowledge Team, reporting to the Litigation & Regulatory Leadership Team

You can be based in any of the UK offices covering the major cities, travel will be expected at times, this role can be full or part time

Objective of the role:

Develop, support, lead and manage the UK Litigation & Regulatory Group's Knowledge strategy (covering initiatives directed both internally and for clients. Focussing onclients and markets, internal and external knowledge resources, training and learning,expertise sharing,research and current awareness,knowledge delivery tools

Responsibility for the Group's technical expertise knowledge, skill and advisory techniques

Champion the Group's expertise across the International Litigation & Regulatory Group through developing, implementing and promoting Knowledge related activities

Represent the Group in the Knowledge Management community.

Co-ordination with the KM champions in the International Arbitration practice

Areas of responsibility

Strategic

Developing the Knowledge strategy, implementing and management of projects to support this

Advising the Leadership Team, Head of Operations and Head of Marketing & Business Development on knowledge issues.

Engaging with Head of International Knowledge & Insight Groups to support initiatives and objectives

Clients and markets

Working with and supporting the Marketing & Business Development team to identify and develop opportunities showing expertise and insight through thought-leadership publications, timely ad-hoc client alerts and other external-facing products with technical content.

Ensuring the technical quality of non-matter related external-facing activities undertaken by the Group with direct support.

Internal and External knowledge resources

Identifying, developing and maintaining the knowledge resources required to deliver high quality services:s

Training and learning

  • Designing and delivering a training curriculum to meet the core technical learning needs of the UK Group.
  • Ensure lawyers have access to training organised by other parts of the firm and are trained efficiently
  • Working with Marketing & Business Development to develop opportunities to show the Group's expertise.
  • Ensuring internal and external technical training is of a high quality

Expertise sharing

  • Building relationships with lawyers and encouraging sharing of expertise.
  • Building relationships with the Heads of International Knowledge & Insight to identify opportunities for cross-selling..

Research and current awareness

  • Acting as the Group's technical expert and supporting lawyers on substantive technical issues,.
  • Ensuring that lawyers are kept aware of legal, regulatory and commercial developments relevant to the Group's business.
  • Working with Marketing & Business Development and the UK Group's partners to identify and develop client relationships

Knowledge delivery tools

  • Owning the UK Group's technical content on the firms intranet, document and know-how repository and other collaborative platforms:
  • Working with the Service Delivery & Quality team to identify and implement appropriate use of service delivery tools.

People Management

  • Managing the UK Group's KM team by providing leadership, guidance, supervision, on-going training and coaching andmonitoring individual progress and undertaking performance reviews.

Financial Management

Managing the budget covering areas of responsibility, training, KM people and knowledge resources. Ensuring appropriate expenditure of the budget and providing such reporting as necessary.

Experience

  • Excellent academics and relevant practical experience, gained in a commercial law firm, or in-house legal department.
  • Prior experience as a PSL is not essential, but experience of developing knowledge resources and delivering training is.
  • Understanding of the drivers affecting the legal services industry and how law firms service delivery is affected by the fast changing environment.
  • Understanding of knowledge management strategy and implementation in a professional services environment
  • Experience of working in a large organisation with multiple reporting lines across multiple geographies.
  • Project management experience, preferably in a partnership environment.
  • Team management experience, experience of working virtual team settings and of managing teams and working effectively with others with little direct face to face interaction.
  • Contract procurement and negotiation experience.
  • Experience of budget management.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, able to communicate effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills, ability to influence and persuade. Proactively engages others and can lead, inspire and motivate through building strong relationships and instilling confidence.
  • Self-aware, confident and resilient, self-starter and takes ownership for tasks, progressing them independently but seeking direction and advice as appropriate. Able to work under pressure and remain focused.
  • Highly organised and effectively prioritises to manage own time and that of others.
  • Applies attention to detail and has sound judgment.
