The Serious Fraud Office is at the forefront of tackling the most serious economic crime in the UK.  We focus on criminal activity which undermines confidence in the UK financial plc arena and the City of London in particular.  In addition to fighting complex fraud, we also focus on combatting serious and complex bribery and corruption cases, many of which involve international elements.

We are currently offering several exciting and challenging opportunities for Investigative Lawyers with a significant criminal prosecution or commercial litigation experience.

You will be either a barrister or solicitor, admitted in and authorised to practice in England and Wales or Northern Ireland.  Your experience may come from a law firm, chambers, Government or industry, but in any case you will be comfortable working in a complex, multi-strand legal or investigative environment.  You will be confident and experienced in advising on complex legal issues and be able to explain and debate issues with more senior staff.  You will be comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary environment.  The role may involve line management of more junior lawyers and/or investigative staff.  You will be provided with training in specialist areas, such as investigative interviewing which you may not have acquired to date.

The SFO offers top quality work on some of the most complex cases confronted in this jurisdiction.  The SFO welcomes applications from people who wish to work alternative working patterns although all staff must understand that high levels of personal commitment are needed to ensure the requirements of the role are met.

The SFO is committed to equality of opportunity and diversity in all its employment practices, policies and procedures. This means that no employee or potential employee will receive less favourable treatment due to their race, sexual orientation, nationality, ethnic origin, disability, religion and belief, gender or marital status.

Amongst other things we offer: the choice of two Civil Service pension schemes, 25 days leave (increasing to 30 days after five years’ service), an additional holiday in recognition of the Queen’s Birthday and the option to buy or sell up to five days’ leave per year.  We also offer a childcare voucher scheme, an interest-free season travel ticket loan, bicycle loan and cycle to work scheme, access to a Rental Deposit Salary Advance Scheme, flexible working arrangements and family-friendly policies.
