The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4years PQE, with extensive experience in energy trading law, having trained in a top city law firm and preferably with in-house experience in an oil & gas trading environment. You will be joining an excellent team and reporting into the General Counsel.
Although legal services may be required for other desks/functions and support services, this position has particular emphasis on support for the Gas, Power and Emissions (GPE) trading desk (and risk control services). Relevant areas include:
- The sale, purchase, trading and transportation of energy commodities, in particular gas, electricity, emissions, both trading of physical products and derivatives
- Drafting and advising on all supporting and ancillary documentation to the above matters, in particular the industry standard documentation published by EFET or by ISDA.
- Advising on credit documentation related to the trading activities (eg Master Netting Agreements)
- Providing advice on existing gas, power and emissions contracts, and other commodities and finance/credit contracts.
- Advise on and ensure awareness of the current GPE regulatory environment in the UK and Europe, monitor changes to the laws, advise the company on necessary changes to systems and practices to ensure compliance.
In-house legal skills:
- Liaise with and educate traders, risk support staff and members of the legal team on GPE business.
- Work autonomously in the GPE area, and also closely with other members of the legal team and the business.
- Assess, calculate and advise upon legal risks. Take a proactive approach and react quickly to adapt to situations and challenges which have not been encountered before.
