Job Description

Superb contract opportunity (6 months, starting January) for a lawyer to support the securities finance business of a US bank in London.  You will work closely with the business in supporting their prop and agency repo-trading, securities lending and derivatives activities.  This will entail negotiating agreements with the bank’s counterparties and clients, participating in product development and regulatory change projects as they impact this business area.  This role is definitely not just a ‘contract negotiator’ position but requires an experienced and well-rounded lawyer who can act as a trusted advisor to the business and understands the wider context in which the business operates – in terms of relevant regulation and the inter-relationship with other services the bank provides such as collateral management, prime brokerage, custody, depositary services, and could support some of those other areas if required.

The role would be a great addition to any CV and a fantastic opportunity to learn from one of the best in the business.  You will also enjoy a high degree of autonomy within a friendly and supportive department.  The work culture is mature and respects a work-life balance and there is a possibility of some home-working or working less than 5 days per week (or combination).  On top of all this, the role will be very well paid.

The ideal candidate will have experience in repo trading and securities lending, but candidates with a general background in derivatives and an interest in developing their repo/lending skills are actively encouraged to apply.  PQE is flexible but expecting a minimum of 3+ in order to have gained management experience and to be able to operate with a high level of independence.  The budget is strong for the role and would likely offer a very attractive rate for someone up to around the 15 PQE mark.

To be considered for this role, you MUST meet the following criteria:

  • Qualified solicitor or barrister admitted in England & Wales
  • Minimum of 3 years PQE
  • Experience of advising on derivatives AND/OR repo AND/OR securities lending
  • In-house experience
  • Good soft skills
