P/A / Legal Secretary to Head of Tax & Planning Department
£24,000
12 month fixed-term contract (February start)
Manchester City Centre
Our client is one of the most established and leading corporate and commercial law firms in Manchester and is currently seeking a talented individual who will support an equity partner for a minimum of 12 months to cover maternity leave. (There is a good chance that once the term is completed, there will be other opportunities within the firm).
The candidate will have a solid experience of a Private Client environment with exposure to tax planning/probate and estate management. Due to the nature of the work, it would also be envisaged that candidates would have excellent interpersonal skills with a commitment to quality and high standards of service to both internal and external stakeholders. You will naturally have accurate and speedy typing skills; and you will be familiar with the workings of a modern city practice; you’ll understand deadlines; the need to communicate with all key stakeholders (including clients and senior partners); preparing correspondence and documents (including tracking changes); audio typing will be second nature and dealing with the office filing system should be no problem. The ideal candidate will also have executive level PA experience as you will work closely with equity partner. You duties in this respect will include but will not be limited to:
- maintaining office systems, including data management and filing; arranging travel where necessary, an occasionally, travelling with the partner to take notes or dictation at meetings or to provide general assistance during presentations; screening phone calls, enquiries and requests, and handling them when appropriate; meeting and greeting visitors at all levels of seniority; organising and maintaining diaries and making appointments; dealing with incoming email, faxes and post, often corresponding on behalf of the partner.
The department is described as intimate and supportive and whilst it's a busy department, there is a great team spirit. There will be a handover period so you won't be thrown in at the deep end. This is a city centre practice (amazing location!) within walking distance to 3 main train stations, and accessible via all other modes of transport as well. We are seeking someone who will very much fit into the firm’s culture – somebody who is both supporting, but most importantly, engaging.
Some comments from existing staff:
"A great place to work; the staff are all really friendly and down to earth. We deal with high quality work so the days are always interesting, and there is a good social side too, so it's definitely not all work and no play"
"The best thing about working here is the people. We all pull in the same direction and the friendly atmosphere around the place is refreshing. The Firm’s personality is reflected through our people. I would say as a whole the Firm is ambitious, innovative, caring and professional.”
"I haven't looked back. It is really enjoyable to work in such a professional and friendly environment. Our relationships with our clients are key. Their interests are paramount to all of us. The close working relationships that we have with each other as a team is passed on in the relationships we have with our clients."
