Exceptional new role for a technology or IT/IP lawyer to join a market leading international law firm with the role being based in their Edinburgh offices. 

Role Profile:

The team advises on a broad range of commercial matters across a number of technology sectors focussing on work of the highest quality with clients ranging from large blue chip organisations to smaller commercial entities working with cutting edge technologies.

IP

You will be advising a wide range of clients on commercial agreements relating to the development, protection and exploitation of IP.  The firm advise a number of leading universities and research institutions across the UK, in addition to working with entrepreneurial businesses on high profile collaborative projects involving IP, complex licensing and technology transfer agreements. A number of the firm's IP lawyers work closely with clients in the life sciences sector, including advising on pharmaceutical products, medical devices, personalised/ stratified medicine projects and eHealth/ digital health technologies, and you will have the opportunity to develop a specialism in this area if that is of interest. Other clients include innovative companies working in sectors such as food and drink, consumer products, media, energy, and oil & gas.

IT & Telecoms

Work will involve significant projects and high value transactions such as outsourcing, system development and software contracts for blue chip clients. The team advise a wide range of clients from those in the financial and public sectors to innovative technology companies who supply solutions to customers around the world. The firm is actively involved in new and developing areas such as Fintech, blockchain, robotics and artificial intelligence. Rest assured, if you want to do IT projects you will get exposure to some of the best in the UK.

Team Profile:

This is a large, close-knit team comprising 15 lawyers (including 3 partners) based across two offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh.  The team work closely with their London office, and there will be opportunities to get involved in London based projects if that is of interest. Training and business development activities are co-ordinated across the Scottish and London teams, with the teams working together jointly on strategic initiatives. There will be opportunities for advancement for the right candidate.

Role Responsibilities will include:

  • A broad range of commercial, IT, IP, Telecoms and data protection matters.
  • Drafting and negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts.
  • Developing close professional relationships with clients and delivering excellent client service.
  • Providing efficient professional support for partners and senior fee-earners.
  • Supporting the wider team in developing business and raising profile of the firm.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Circa 2-4 years PQE and a background in IT/IP/Telecoms Law.
  • Excellent analytical and drafting skills, along with a commercial approach and good interpersonal skills. 
  • You will be able to work autonomously(with support as appropriate), and assist partners and senior fee-earners on more complex, higher value deals and transactions. There will be a high degree of client contact, and so experience and confidence in dealing directly with clients is essential.
  • • Degree/Scots law (or equivalent)
  • • Strong general commercial expertise is essential with a good working knowledge of IP and IT matters
  • • Appropriate level of post qualification experience in a leading firm
