An opportunity has arisen for a Legal Counsel (IP Litigation) for a music business with strong ties to the UK's recorded industry in central London. The Legal Counsel (IP Litigation) will focus on soft intellectual property litigation and content protection, with elements of general commercial, company/commercial work also required.

About the Legal Counsel (IP litigation) role:

In this role you will assist in devising and implementing strategies to reduce online and physical intellectual property infringement. You will be involved in detailed legal and technical research and analysis; will prepare executive briefings, papers and reports; and will assist in the preparation and running of all aspects of civil and criminal litigation (pre and post action).

You will also provide assistance (including drafting, minute taking and elements of company secretarial support) to the company, its various departments (including in particular the Content Protection, Public Affairs and Events teams), the group companies (responsible for running, amongst other things, various famous awards ceremonies, and to legal queries from company members.

You will assist in drafting commercial contracts, communications, briefing documents and government consultations and creative industry documents. They will also play a role in developing the commercial exploitation of the advisory brand; and the protection of the trade mark portfolio.

You will assist their colleagues in the Legal team and work to ensure strong team unity, drive and collective professional development.

About you:

  • Assisting and reporting to General Counsel, the ideal candidate will have an excellent academic record and be between NQ -2 years' PQE*
  • They will have particular experience of IP law (especially UK copyright and the various European Directives underpinning UK copyright law) and drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial contracts at a well-regarded firm or in-house position
  • Very strong written and oral communication skills, as well as a strong team spirit, are a pre-requisite for this varied and challenging role
  • Experience of the music industry is preferred. A passion for music, and the business of music, is essential
