Compliance Paralegal

The Firm:

This is a well-run medium-sized law firm with a very positive culture in new, modern offices in the City. It has decided to invest in a new risk and compliance role to work with the Head of Compliance who is a very experienced and well-liked risk and compliance professional.

The Role:

You will be given day to day responsibility for the firm’s new client matter opening procedures;

Client verification and due diligence enquiries - dealing with electronic anti money laundering checks – identifying when enhanced due diligence and on-going monitoring is necessary, liaising with fee earners and the MLRO as required;

Global sanctions and monitoring of other restrictive regimes and conducting media checks

Conducting conflicts of interest checks on all new clients;

Assisting with client risk profiling as appropriate;

Regularly reviewing the Law Society Practice Notes and the SRA website for scam/fraud alerts and liaising with Head of Compliance to  disseminate information through monthly/quarterly risk and compliance bulletins;

Managing the firm’s CQS quality accreditation and preparing for the annual licence renewal including liaising with the CQS office, Professional and Development Centre and other departments at the Law Society;  

Assisting with the practice SRA licence applications and collating the necessary regulatory information for the annual renewal process;

Conducting ad-hoc research and liaising with Head of Compliance to ensure that the firm’s risk and compliance database is constantly kept under review and updated as appropriate;

File closing and archiving  in archivist’s absence

You:

This will suit you if you have at least one year of experience in risk and compliance work within the legal sector, preferably within the City or a medium to large size practice
