Governance Lawyer required to join a local authority based in Greater Manchester for an initial period of 3-6 on a locum basis.
The successful applicant will actively support the management of the Legal Services department, by proactively providing high level, expert legal advice to the Council, its members and officers.
Our client is looking for an approachable lawyer who can conduct themselves with gravitas and instil confidence in their clients. You will act as a primary point of contact for members and senior officers for a wide variety of legal matters relating to the governance of the council.
Responsibilities will include assisting with a caseload of work in relation to public administration and governance information.
The successful candidate will ideally will have knowledge and a good understanding of the following:
- General public law principles and of the law concerning local authority decision-making (particularly in the context of an authority operating a leader and cabinet model of executive arrangements).
- Freedom of Information Act 2000, the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 and the Data Protection Act 1998.
- The law pertaining to electoral registration and the administration of elections.
The successful candidate will also be required to attend and advise at committee meetings.
The client is looking for somebody to start as soon as possible and while its for 3-6 months initially, there is the possibility of an extension thereafter.
Ideally the Governance Lawyer will be available to work full-time although there may be some flexibility for the right candidate.
