Our client, a retail financial services institution based in London is seeking a Legal Counsel to cover maternity leave for eight months on a part-time or full-time basis.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a strong and progressive team in an exciting business. You will join a team of five comprising one GC and four lawyers in London, and there are four overseas lawyers. You will assist on a broad range of projects, as well as day to day business queries.

Key responsibilities may include:

  • Applying The Consumer Credit Act, The FCA Handbook and other applicable legislation when launching new products or developing existing products.
  • Identifying and assessing legal risk associated with new and existing products.
  • Working with industry bodies so as to achieve and maintain best practice in relation to legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Advising on responses to FCA consultation papers and new draft legislation.
  • Supporting the complaints team as required.
  • Consumer litigation
  • Sharing best practice with colleagues in other jurisdictions.

The ideal candidate will have at least some of the following skills and experience:

  • All levels of PQE considered
  • Knowledge of laws and FCA regulations that apply to consumer credit firms
  • Previous experience in financial services in the UK, ideally from a retail bank will be highly desirable

This role is due to start in the last week of February until the end of October and will pay a daily rate. Individuals seeking an opportunity between 3-5 days per week will be considered, the role is based in the office so will not accommodate individuals seeking a remote working arrangement.
