Head of Legal (Locum)

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Locum Head of Legal to work for a Local Authority in East Anglia for a minimum period of 3 months with a high possibility of extension.

You will lead improvement in the council's constitutional and decision making processes, provide expert advice and support to councillors and colleagues, and challenge the status quo. You will have experience of managing a service and formulating, leading and implementing change. You will also have the ability to work at the political interface.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

• Undertake a varied caseload to include Licensing, Environmental, Planning, Contract matters and general administrative law
• Advise on service delivery and to work with partners to deliver innovative and exciting projects
• Act as the Council's Monitoring Officer and work with Standards Committee
• Deal with Governance related policy drafting/reviews
• Provide conduct/constitutional/administrative advice
• Drafting agreements, contracts, notices, summons, orders and other documentation
• Advise and liaise with senior officers and members
• Act as the lead legal advisor on high profile and complex Council projects

Applications are welcome from Qualified Solicitors, Barristers or Legal Executives with previous experience working within a Local Government organisation and with management experience.

The rate will be dependant on experience and open to negotiation.
