Exceptional in-house legal counsel role, specialising in commercial projects with a leading international FTSE100 company- this role will be based in their Glasgow offices.
Role Profile:
- Advising on contractual matters relating to operational and logistical business change, identifying and managing contractual flow-up and flow-downs and providing contextual, strategic advice to the business. The candidate will require the gravitas to attend and represent the business in key stakeholder meetings with regard to the projects for which he/she is responsible. This person will require the ability to quickly and succinctly deliver summaries and options to the business.
- Provide contract and legal advice to the business and operational teams working on the projects in order to ensure that it delivers in accordance with legal and contractual obligations and customer requirements.
- Offer independent challenge in relation to proposed variations to contract and recommend pro-active solutions which meet internal and external needs.
- Liaise effectively with key stakeholders, Directors, business units, suppliers and customers.
- Work with the business to develop and structure appropriate commercial and contractual positions which optimally balance the business’s exposure to risk with need for delivery.
- Contract drafting and amendment of additional service requests and contract change notices.
- Appraisal of 3rd party subcontracts terms and conditions.
- Provide contract advice as required including interpretation and resolution of contractual issues and participate in customer contract negotiations as required.
- Negotiate and secure appropriate agreements with partners & key subcontractors as required.
- Assist in the development and implementation of policies, processes and systems as required.
- Keep appraised of the changing political and industry landscape.
- Work with colleagues to meet and negotiate with external customers, partners, subcontractors, and vendors concerning a diverse set of complex commercial and contractual relationships to achieve acceptable and cost effective outcomes.
- Assist in the development of policy guidance on contractual positions.
- Evaluating risk exposure and limits of liability in conjunction with relevant insurance policies.
Candidate Requirements:
- Qualified solicitor with commercial contracts and/or projects management experience holding a current practising certificate.
- Experience of successful working on complex contractual proposals, ideally for public sector contracts (or equivalent relevant experience).
- Experience of building strong relationships and successfully negotiating with customers, partners and key subcontractors.
- Ability to identify and understands issues, problems and opportunities and takes action that is consistent with available facts, constraints and probable consequences.
- A self-starter and fast learner who is willing to learn and to work both collaboratively and on their own initiative with a commitment to delivering results.
- Capable of building and maintaining effective working relationships with a range of people.
- Experience of engineering, manufacturing and supply contracts would be an advantage but not essential.
On offer is a highly competitive salary plus benefits including car/ car allowance and bonus. This role is projects based and for a fixed term of 12 months initially with the potential of extension.
