This role will work closely with the General Counsel EMEA, also based in the Old Street office, and will support and ultimately report into the Global Assistant General Counsel, Privacy who is based over in the US. The Data Protection Attorney will provide regulatory advice and compliance support on a European level;

  • Advising the group and its agencies on European data protection laws, regulations and compliance
  • Supporting the implementation of privacy initiatives and projects in Europe that apply to the entire corporation
  • Developing and administering any regional or country-level privacy policies and programs, in coordination with the Assistant General Counsel Privacy; provide advice, guidance and enterprise procedures on the interpretation of privacy requirements and such policies
  • Identify new business requirements resulting from new and evolving data protection laws and regulations
  • Enable the development of data driven advertising solutions and projects while ensuring compliance with privacy and data protection laws, utilising privacy by design methodology, and industry best practices
  • Review advertising and marketing programs for associated data collection and use practices
  • Advise on notification and other obligations in connection with privacy/security incidents
  • Assist with the development of privacy awareness and training procedures
  • Review and negotiate privacy and data protection terms with clients and vendors
  • Develop and administer, in coordination with the Assistant General Counsel Privacy, privacy standards and procedures in regard to European vendor relationships
  • Monitor and communicate to Legal, Regional Management and other appropriate groups about any data protection and privacy developments within the EEA, in coordination with the Assistant General Counsel Privacy
  • Liaise with European privacy professionals at peer companies and industry organisations

The role will suit someone with strong privacy and data protection-related legal experience in-house or within a law firm who has a strong technological background, and an understanding of the relevant laws and industry standards. Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively with people at all levels of the company are essential, as well as strong time management, planning and organisational skills.
