Paralegal - 12 month FTC (International Personal Injury, Birmingham)

Our client is a national firm and they currently have a vacancy for a Paralegal to work within the Fast Track International Personal Injury team in the Birmingham Office on a 12 month fixed term contract.

The Team

The team acts for a large number of individuals who have sustained injuries as a result of accidents abroad. Whilst the accidents have occurred abroad, they are all English jurisdiction cases and of Fast Track value. The team deals with employers' liability, package holiday, cruise, RTA and public liability matters.

These claims have a generic element which requires a high degree of proficiency and understanding on a range of tactical and logistical levels. The claims are based in negligence, breach of contract, misrepresentation and breach of statutory duty. A key understanding of all of these areas is essential to the successful prosecution of claims on behalf of the client however specific knowledge of travel litigation is not required as training and supervision will be provided.

This is litigation of the most challenging nature and regularly involves making new law or pushing the boundaries of existing law as the cases concerned deal with complex issues of applicable law, liability and jurisdictional issues.

The Role

We are looking for enthusiastic and committed applicants, who can demonstrate they enjoy working in a busy environment, take a flexible approach to work, are able to use their own initiative and have the drive and ambition to develop their skills. The successful candidate will have excellent client care skills, excellent time management with the ability to multi-task and keep to deadlines and will have experience in a comparable position working towards fee earning targets; the position would suit a motivated individual with intelligence, ambition, lateral thinking and sound judgment.

You will be expected to be able to handle your own case load immediately (with supervision) so ideally we are looking for somebody with experience of handling their own cases in a PI environment.

Good communication skills are essential.

If you thrive on being busy and can adapt well to new challenges, then we'll give you all the training and support you'll need to help you succeed in this highly rewarding role.
