A bulge bracket investment bank is looking to hire a new Legal COO. In helping to drive deeper commercial awareness across the legal team this role will be imperative in ensuring that the instructions made by the Legal function to external suppliers are priced in the most cost effective way.
This role will develop, implement and provide specialist commercial support, on behalf of the Global Legal COO, helping to drive deeper commercial awareness across the function and ensuring that the instructions made by the Legal function to external suppliers are priced in the most cost effective way, and making full use of the efficiency levers approved by the Legal Executive Committee.
The role will involve various facets including:
Law Firm Engagement: The COO will have a robust understanding of the type of services provided by each of the law firms to particular regions and lines of business, and the rate structure of key firms across all jurisdictions. The role holder will design and manage a streamlined approach to Law Firm Engagement, as defined by RemComm, including working with internal lawyers to create alternative fee arrangements for new projects and matters, and negotiating with the law firm lawyers at the most strategic firms.
Supplier Performance Management: Create the basis for law firm evaluation and scorecards, ensuring internal feedback on the supplier performance is collated from across the function and reported in a way that is easy to understand and drives actions. Overseeing the reporting data quality, as an input to the Legal Data & Analytics capability.
Operational Management: Administer the Value Account for panel vendors for the Legal function, including reporting on the status, headroom and opportunity for RemComm, monitoring the value we are getting from all law firms. As a subject matter expert for all operational aspects of vendor billing, including the Legal Billing systems in use, and the standard vendor billing processes, the Head of Commercial Management will resolve issues relating to billing, including analysis and actions from the regular review of unpaid and 'stuck' invoices.
You will ideally have Legal COO experience from a similar financial services institution or a law firm. Our client believes that this role is best suited for someone between 8-12 years experience, however, applications outside of this remit will be considered.
