Our client, an award winning leading law firm have an opportunity for a Learning and Development Manager to join their friendly and professional team.

Responsibilities include:

Line management responsibility for the Information, Research and Training Manager, Knowledge and Training Manager and the HR officer (Training).

LIAISES WITH

  • The HR Team and in particular the Head of HR. 
  • The Head of IT and IT Trainer.
  • All members of the practice including Partners, Senior Managers, Fee Earners and Support Staff at every level, ensuring their day-to-day knowledge and development requirements are met.
  • Suppliers, the Law Society, the Solicitors Regulation Authority, external training providers and other information professionals.

JOB OVERVIEW

To play a key role in the development of the Partners and staff by taking the lead in devising a L&D strategy and implementing a range of learning, management development and training solutions.

Operational management of the firms Learning and Development function. Including management and development of staff, continuous review and improvement of the learning and development initiatives, regular review of new and improved learning technology and to raise and advance the profile of the function within the firm.

MAIN DUTIES

  • Working with the Head of HR to devise the L&D strategy consistent with the objectives set out in the firms Business Plan. 
  • Oversee the design, deployment and expansion of training and development programmes that meet the needs of the firm, its employees and its clients.
  • Responsibility for managing the annual training budget and spend and ensuring expenditure is appropriate.
  • Ensure implementation of all appraisal/performance review training and development requests.
  • Develop the use of the HR system to effectively track and administer training.
  • Production of management reports on CPD activity and publicise L&D events throughout the firm.
  • Ensure consistent value for money and return on investment for all bought-in training and development services.
  • Ensure that the department works closely with the HR team to ensure the best possible induction for new employees from an L&D point of view.
  • Ensure that the department works closely with the Professional Support Lawyers to devise timely, informative and cost-effective training sessions for all internal clients.
  • Monitor and review the progress of Trainee Solicitors in conjunction with relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Continuously research and review new and better ways of achieving the L&D strategy as defined by the Managing Partner and Head of HR.
  • Champion the services of the L&D department across the firm and at regular management forums.
  • Effectively manage relationships with third-party training providers and ensure excellent value for money for the firm.
  • Oversee the design and facilitation of effective succession planning.
  • Line management of staff, including appraisal, professional development and promotion.
