General Counsel

Our client is a well-established commercial bank who provide a range of services including offering retail products. They are looking for a senior lawyer with retail banking experience as a General Counsel to be the point of contact for legal advice for the business. This is a fantastic opportunity with a dynamic business providing a high level of autonomy and will be ideal for a senior lawyer looking for the next step in their career.

THE ROLE

As a General Counsel, you will be responsible for the legal function of the business.

The primary responsibilities include:

• Working in conjunction with senior management and other parts of the business to provide legal advice and be the point of contact for legal matters across the bank.
• Provide advice on retail banking matters
• Managing, negotiating and reviewing lending and commercial credit documentation.
• Undertake a variety of general legal matters including commercial contracts, regulatory matters, providing legal advice on new business plans.
• Liaise with external counsel when required for legal advice

THE CANDIDATE

• The candidate must have at least 3 years’ post qualified experience including good knowledge of retail banking
• Experience in a General Counsel / Head of Legal role is not essential
