Description
- Carrying out litigation on behalf of clients. This can take the form of instructing solicitors and barristers or representing the client to the Tribunal directly. This includes responsibility for the day-to-day conduct of litigation, including drafting, commenting on and amending detailed instructions to Counsel, considering the points in dispute, the supporting evidence (and where further evidence might be required), the strengths of the case and general case strategy, and consulting with industry experts where required as part of the process.
- Managing HMRC enquiries.
- Conducting negotiations with HMRC (with a view to settlement or on points of process).
- Direct liaison with clients (or other stakeholders) and their advisers to discuss the status of HMRC enquiries and litigation and to take any necessary instructions.
- Drafting updates to clients (or other stakeholders) and their advisers on a scheduled and ad hoc basis.
- Discussing, considering and advising on any ad hoc issues relating to the litigation and the impact of those issues on the litigation.
- Complying with disclosure requests made by HMRC or contained in Tribunal directions.
- Ongoing monitoring and management of structured product entities and new business opportunities.
- Providing expert technical tax support.
- Participating in training sessions on tax developments.
