Junior Barristers’ Clerk

Fountain Court Chambers

London

Would you like to start a career in Clerking, working for one of the most prestigious barristers’ Chambers in the UK and internationally?  Fountain Court Chambers is recruiting for Junior Clerks, which is a great opportunity for someone who wants to work in a fast-paced, legal environment, in an important role, responsible for delivering an outstanding service to the members (barristers) and their clients.

To be considered for this role, you must:

  • possess a strong academic record;
  • have a strong working knowledge of IT (MS Office);
  • have excellent communication skills; be confident and articulate;
  • be highly motivated, organised and be able to demonstrate your initiative;
  • be happy to work independently, as well as part of a team;
  •  be able to multi-task, sometimes in highly pressurised situations;
  • have a demonstrable attention to detail.

Previous experience working in a legal environment (e.g. in chambers, in a law firm or in the court service) is desirable but not essential.

What the role entails

  • printing and assembly of bundles (and other documents) for members;
  • transporting of papers and books, by trolley (sometimes large volumes) to and from court and tribunals;
  • lodging authorities and skeleton arguments to the courts and tribunals. Court work will also involve arranging for orders to be sealed;
  • monitoring and handling the receipt and return of case files to Solicitors

A scenario question

You are due to collect papers, at the end of a court day, at 4pm.  Just as you are about to leave for Court, a member calls the Junior Clerks’ room with an “urgent request for printing.”  How might you deal with this, and what would be your considerations?  Please tell us in no more than 100 words in your cover letter.

Offering a competitive salary, discretionary bonus, and additional benefits following a successful probationary period, this is where you can start a very exciting career.

Closing date for applications is Friday 17th February 2017, with interviews planned to take place shortly thereafter. Early applications are encouraged. Due to expected levels of interest in these roles, we may be unable to respond to all enquiries

We thank you for your time, and interest in working for Fountain Court Chambers.
