Locum childcare Solicitor

Our client, a Local Authority in the West Midlands is seeking an experienced and dynamic Childcare Solicitor for a locum contract of 3 – 6 months.

This council already boasts a well established childcare legal team but due to increased work load, they are looking to add to their numbers in order to best service the incoming work.

This reputable team of lawyers are looking for a dynamic and professional Solicitor who is able to pick up a caseload of files with little supervision. The successful applicant will also get ample opportunity to perform their own advocacy at a range of hearing types, therefore candidates who enjoy advocacy focussed roles are encouraged to apply.

Applications are welcomed from qualified Solicitors, Barristers or Legal Executives who have experience working directly for or on behalf of Local Authorities. The ideal candidate will be passionate about public law and be available to commit to the full period of the contract. Candidates from a Prosecutions/Criminal background are also welcome to apply as the council are willing to invest in the right person, provided they are already a confident advocate.

Attractively, this role is offered on a flexible basis. Most working patterns will be considered and team members are able to work from home when viable.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

• Dealing with a wide range of Public and Private Childcare Law matters, varying in complexity
• Taking responsibility for a personal caseload that will include pre –proceedings and advocacy matters
• Undertaking advocacy in the Family Proceedings Court and County Court at a wide range of contested and non-contested hearings, including Final Hearings
• Drafting applications for issue at court
• Drafting legal documents in the course of proceedings
• Drafting letters to a wide range of Third Parties and professionals
• Advising the client department
• Attending PLO meetings, in-house professionals meetings and advocates meetings

Hourly rate is negotiable but is expected to fall between £35 - £42 per hour
