HEALTHCARE ADVISORY WORK

Fee earners who specialise in healthcare work tend to advise clients (often public institutions) on matters relating patient care and treatment. Common examples involve matters relating to the Mental Health Act and incidents of restraint and event false imprisonment as well as instances of medical malpractice. The team is also involved with high profile inquest work.

As the nature of the work suggests, this is a technical and often highly sensitive area of the law. It is also an area where clients require continual advice on policy implementation and developments in the law. As a result, you may well be seconded to any given client to help support them especially should they require specialist assistance on a given matter.

A BROAD RANGE OF CANDIDATES ENCOURAGED TO APPLY

Obviously, those with previous experience of healthcare advisory work are strongly encouraged to put their application forward. However, it should be stressed, those who have gained experience in other areas such as EL/PL, professional indemnity, clinical negligence and industrial disease should also consider an approach.

Those who have developed experience such as drafting witness statements as well as instructions to counsel will certainly possess the right kind of transferable skills. The role also involves the ability to work through and analyse numerous medical records and assisting more senior fee earners in the preparation of trial bundles.
