Here's what Card Factory says about the role…
Since our launch in 1997, Card Factory has become the fastest growing greetings card retailer in the UK and one of the leading lights of the industry. When it comes to special occasions, whatever the need, we've got it wrapped up! And we're still growing; today we have over 850 stores, in every corner of the UK, with more popping up all the time. Card Factory is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a member of the FTSE250.
We are now looking to grow our Legal team and are recruiting for an In-house Legal Counsel.
A growing volume of work combined with ever increasing regulatory requirements means we have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious lawyer to support some of the day-to-day legal needs of this dynamic retail business, as well as working on some strategically important projects that will support the development of the business in the medium to long term.
Reporting directly to the General Counsel and Company Secretary, the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to engage with the management and PLC Boards by supporting him with the governance, company secretarial and reporting requirements of the Group.
Key areas of work will include:
*Taking responsibility for the day-to-day legal requirements of the Group's subsidiaries, Getting Personal Limited and Printcraft Limited
*Supporting the continued development of the Group supply chain framework including standard terms of trading, supplier on-boarding and the development of trading policies
*Intellectual property matters including managing the Group's portfolio of registered trademarks, licensing agreements and any third party disputes
*Negotiating complex commercial contracts, including technology and supply chain agreements
*Supporting the preparation of papers to the Board and management team
*Developing a programme for the Group to ensure compliance with the GDPR
*Drafting and negotiating NDAs *Providing training and support on legal developments
The successful candidate will:
*Be a qualified lawyer with between 2 and 5 years' post-qualification experience and training from a reputable national law firm (although this does not preclude those with a greater or less PQE from applying)
*Have strong inter-personal and communication skills, be open minded with a willingness to learn
*Be willing to take on a diverse range of work and capable of working independently when required
*Technically and commercially astute with experience of negotiating complex commercial contracts and ideally experience of data protection
*Some company secretarial experience with a focus on reporting and governance would be advantageous but is not essential
*Previous in-house experience would be desirable whether in a permanent or seconded role
