Our client, a leading international law firm require a Learning & Development Manager to join their busy Learning and Development (L&D) Team on a 14 Month FTC (Maternity Cover). This large L&D Team is part of the HR Department alongside the HR Advisory, Recruitment, Inclusion & Corporate Responsibility and Reward & Benefits Teams.

Focused on delivering a high quality service to the firm, you’ll be able to work collaboratively with other members of the L&D Team and the HR Department, partners and other stakeholders across the firm while also pushing forward independently, as well as being responsible for managing the technical and legal skills training provision.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage the associate technical and legal skills training programmes for qualified lawyers.
  • Progress the strategic review of such technical and legal skills training and implement changes to improve the trainee and qualified lawyer learning and development experience.
  • Oversee compliance with the SRA’s new continuing competence regime.Manage other project-based matters and design and deliver some skills training, according to interest and experience.
  • Manage people, including performance reviews, delegation and providing feedback.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal hours when required.

Candidate requirements:

  • Be (or have been) a qualified lawyer.
  • Be experienced in managing technical and legal skills training in a law firm environment.
  • Willingly deliver training sessions as required and according to interest.
  • Be proactive, solutions-focused and confident.
  • Communicate professionally, effectively and diplomatically with people at all levels in person, on the telephone and in writing, demonstrating a good use of grammar.
  • Be able to build strong relationships with various levels of people from across the firm and within the team.
  • Have excellent organisational skills, with the ability to multi-task, keep calm under pressure and work to tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrate excellent attention to detail.
  • Be sensitive to the need to maintain confidentiality, as appropriate.
  • Be able to work collaboratively in a team, but also be comfortable working on their own.
  • Have experience of working in a diverse team while fostering an inclusive team culture.
  • Be able to work with demanding individuals and to use strong influencing skills where necessary.
