Our client, an insurance business based in London is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel for a 3 - 6 months contract with the possibility of being extended or becoming permanent for the right candidate.
This is a broad general commercial role based in the Group's Head Office, encompassing the provision of legal support to a wide range of departments and Group functions, but predominantly focussing on working closely with the Sales and marketing teams. You will be advising all levels of management up to the main board and subsidiary boards, and senior managers of Group functions, across a broad range of legal issues, and being responsible for a wide range of work including the review, drafting, and negotiation of a wide range of commercial trading contracts, e-commerce and consumer law matters, procurement, software services and licensing, dispute management and resolution, and providing advice and opinions.
The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:
* Solicitor, from a recognised City firm or regional firm, with a strong general commercial or company/commercial background in either general trading or general insurance sectors. In-house candidates will also be considered;
* Proven track record of operating with a reasonable degree of autonomy and initiative to drive initiatives and projects forward with minimum supervision.
* Experience in the areas of general insurance or financial services regulation and data protection would not be a pre-requisite but helpful;
* Broad based legal knowledge and varied experience are essential, giving confidence to handle a diverse range of issues arising in the course of the Group's business activities;
* Excellent interpersonal skills and experience of developing and managing good working relationships at all levels throughout the business, with external advisers, customers, suppliers and regulators, as well as demonstrating negotiation experience;
* Ability to develop strong working relationships as a team player with the Sales and Marketing teams to assist with existing account development and new account acquisitions;
* Ability to work autonomously under pressure and to tight deadlines and to manage workload;
Due to the urgency of this role you will need to be available at short notice.
