Chambers Manager - Leading Barristers Chambers - Manchester
Our client is one of the pre-eminent and longest established Sets in Manchester, with dedicated Teams specialising in Crime, Chancery and Commercial, Personal Injury, Clinical Negligence, Family and Family Finance. Chambers is acknowledged by the legal directories as “leaders in the field” across all its main practice areas. Chambers now seeks to appoint a highly suitable individual to the role of ‘Chambers Manager’.
This role will work closely with the Senior Clerk, Management Committee and Members of Chambers and has line management responsibility for all non-clerking staff. The individual will maintain and further develop the efficient, effective and economic administration of Chambers, with responsibility for all administrative functions including finance, facilities management, HR and IT.
In conjunction with the Senior Clerk, they will be responsible for the smooth running of Chambers. This busy and “hands on” position is expected to play an integral role in the on-going development and success of Chambers.
The Role
Finance: Preparation of draft annual budget; review and reporting on annual expenditure; oversee management of accounts, cashflow and bank reconciliation; financial compliance; ensure ‘best value’ against all administrative and financial decisions; effective management of fees and billings clerks.
Facilities Management: Maintenance of appearance and functionality of all office space; manage building security; procurement of office equipment; all health and safety matters; manage any refurbishment and repairs required.
Administration: Ensuring staff and members handbooks are up-to-date and fully compliant; ensure maintenance of Chambers’ insurance policies and certificates are current; ensure Bar Mutual and Data Protection cover is adequate and up-to-date; organise and attend at Chambers and Management Committee Meetings, as required.
Human Resources: Maintain and develop compliant HR records, policies, handbooks; maintain and administer all staff records including recruitment, policies and procedures, job descriptions and holiday records; ensure compliance with all relevant legislation.
Others: Responsible for management of Chambers’ IT contractors; Regulation - ensuring Chambers is compliant with all regulatory requirements; line management of administration staff; equality and diversity – active pursuit of the principles of equal opportunity/diversity in all aspects of the role; marketing - supporting Chambers’ marketing initiatives.
The Person
- Be educated to degree level or hold an equivalent vocational qualification in business, accountancy or other relevant field; or be able to demonstrate relevant equivalent experience.
- Possess demonstrable experience of working and managing successfully in a legal, professional services or similar environment with experience relevant to the functions required.
- Have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with and influence others effectively at all levels within Chambers and with outside organisations.
- Possess a track record of effective leadership and delivery.
- Be innovative, pro-active and can plan and implement change.
