We have been approached by a local authority based in Herefordshire to assist with the permanent recruitment of 4 Senior Childcare Solicitors to their existing team.

My client is entering an exciting new phase in its development of Legal Services, and is seeking to appoint to positions to drive innovative legal and commercial strategies and deliver increased improvement and efficiency from the authority's legal activities. This is an exciting opportunity to handle an interesting workload and advise a number of high profile clients in important legal services. It is also an opportunity to work in the beautiful county of Herefordshire for an authority committed to ongoing improvement in all aspects of its organisation and service delivery.

This position requires a qualified solicitor (or equivalent) to conduct a caseload of childcare cases in the Family Proceedings Courts and County Courts. You will be conducting cases from initial instruction to final hearings, which will include the preparation of evidence and advising on the prospects of a successful outcome.

You will be required to have previous experience of handling a childcare caseload of 10-15 care proceedings, ideally within local government, however private practice candidates will be considered. You will be used to attending meetings in relation to care cases, and taking part in duty rotas. Children Panel Membership would be beneficial.

The position of Children's Solicitor is to provide an enhanced legal service to the Council's Children's Wellbeing Directorate in respect of Child Care including Adoption. You will be expected to handle a caseload of complex legal matters with minimal supervision and make a positive contribution to the continuous improvement in the quality and cost effectiveness of the service. The successful applicant will be:

* A qualified solicitor or barrister with at least three years post qualification experience in childcare and adoption law and practice

* Experienced advocate in Family Proceedings Courts and County Courts, High Court experience would be an advantage

* Understanding of local government and public sector law affecting social care and education
