THE COMPANY
Our client is the financial services arm of highly-regarded global company with a household name.
THE ROLE
An outstanding newly created role has arisen within the company's small yet collegial legal department for a Legal Adviser at the NQ-1pqe level (or equivalent).
The role will entail assisting the General Counsel in providing support and legal advice to the business (e.g. in relation to consumer and commercial contracts, advertising and financial promotions, consumer rights, data protection and legal disputes).
Key responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing and assisting with the negotiation of supplier contracts.
- Advising on day to day legal matters and the legal requirements relating to new business ventures and product development, escalating to the General Counsel as appropriate.
- Proactively ensuring ongoing compliance with the law on a departmental and company level.
- Reviewing and advising the business on external advertising.
- Managing litigation as required and instructing external lawyers as necessary.
ABOUT YOU
To be considered for this role you will be a qualified lawyer with experience of working within an in-house legal department, or a law firm with the ability to demonstrate close client contact.
- Exposure to core company/commercial legal areas, e.g., Commercial Contracts, Consumer Rights, Data Protection, Advertising.
- Experience in drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts within a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable structuring contractual arrangements to achieve stated commercial aims.
- Experience in data protection law and/or consumer credit law would be desirable.
With an excellent academic background, you will be:
- An excellent and intuitive communicator at all levels.
- Pragmatic, with a commercial approach to problem solving.
- Able to positively represent Legal & Compliance within the wider business.
- Self-motivated within a demanding environment with the ability to prioritise workload and effective time management skills.
- Willing to 'go to the source' to investigate and understand existing business processes, in order to provide excellent and relevant legal services.
This role will provide the right candidate with the chance to work in house as an integral part of this business working alongside an accomplished General Counsel who will both motivate and mentor you where required, but expect you to form your own decisions in early course.
