COSTS DRAFTSPERSON - LEIGH / WIGAN

Costs Draftsperson – If you have a solid background in costs drafting and/or negotiating and are looking for a new challenge offering a broad range of work from civil and commercial litigation to other areas such as insurance, then this role may be of interest.

KEY FACTS

  • Job title: Costs Draftsperson
  • Location: Leigh / Wigan
  • Salary: £20,000 - £30,000 (depending on experience)
  • Reports to: Partner, Head of Costs
  • Previous Experience: Costs fee earners with defendant experience would be ideal. However, both claimant and defendant experience will be considered. Given the nature of the role, our client is looking to attract applicants from a variety of backgrounds so those with civil or commercial or, indeed insurance and personal injury experience are encouraged to apply.

THE NATURE OF THE WORK

What makes the role so attractive is the nature of the work on offer. The firm’s clients range from public authorities, local government as well as organisations who operate in that sector. The litigation caseloads are therefore very varied involving anything from insurance litigation work such as employers’ liability / public liability to civil litigation and tortious matters as well as some commercial litigation cases.

As a result, the costs work is challenging as it is various, offering candidates the chance to really broaden their horizons and develop as well-rounded fee earners. The firm offers fantastic training and support and you will be working for one of the leading national practices with a great reputation.

CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Given the nature of the work, costs fee earners who have already gained broad experience in practicing costs drafting or negotiating, will certainly be of interest. That said, given that most costs fee earners tend to specialise quite early in their careers, any costs fee earner should not be dissuaded from applying because all their experience relates to one particular area.

In particular, our client is looking to attract bright, ambitious, hard-working costs drafters or negotiators who really want to cut their teeth on a more varied and complex range of work. Perhaps you are currently working within the costs team of another reputable law firm or maybe you are a costs fee earner within a specialised costs practice. Either way, anyone who wishes to work in a dynamic and supportive environment and who feels they have the necessary skills to be a valuable asset to the team, should certainly consider applying.

PROGRESSION AND DEVELOPMENT

As well as the quality of the work, the successful applicant will be working in a team which actively promotes from within with high retention rates. It should be pointed out that you will also be working alongside the Partner and Head of Department and therefore a key decision maker in the firm.
