We are recruiting on behalf of a Sheffield based law firm for a Prison Law Supervisor to join the Criminal Law team.
The role is based within the Sheffield office but travel across the North of England for client attendances is essential so candidates must be happy to travel when required.
You will have experience in running your own caseload of Prison Law matters as the role will require you to pick up a full and varied Prison Law matters as well as Magistrates Court and Police Station work where applicable.
Responsibilities will include;
- Representing with clients requiring specialist prison law advice
- Providing written advice to the client
- Taking instructions on new cases, including completion of Advice and Assistance and Advocacy Assistance forms
- Dealing with Legal Aid applications and opening file procedures
- Maintaining proper diary systems i.e. court and tribunal dates, limitation dates and timetables set by Courts/tribunals
- Periodically reviewing files to ensure compliance with contract requirements
- Making claims for payment including payments on account, cost files and pay out disbursements
- Taking statements from clients and witnesses
- Taking instructions on evidence, statements and reports
- Reviewing and drafting documentation
- Attending Courts and adjudications in and out of office hours as required
- Briefing Counsel, where necessary/appropriate and attending hearings with Counsel
- Attending case conferences
