Personal Injury

Personal injury and illness can have a dramatic and sometimes life changing impact for the person affected and for those who are close to them. The personal injury teams at this firm don't just deal with compensation claims. They also work with clients and their families to ensure all of their rehabilitation needs are met. It's a unique, bespoke approach that really makes a difference to people whose lives have been turned upside down by injury.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Child Abuse and Medical Negligence team based in Birmingham.

The team handles medical negligence claims for people who have suffered illness or injury as a result of substandard care in any medical setting such as treatment from a GP, NHS hospital or private clinic. The work is very varied and includes all types of medical negligence casework, including claims involving birth injury (including injury to both mother and baby), brain and spinal injury, negligent surgery, fatal accidents and inquest representation, delays in diagnosis or inappropriate treatment.

The team also handles child abuse cases including claims against religious and voluntary organisations, schools, social services departments and individual perpetrators.

You'll handle a caseload which will include the investigation and litigation of complex and mid-value cases, whilst assisting other colleagues on high value/catastrophic injury cases worth up to many millions of pounds. You'll be expected to live up to the firm's core values and provide exceptional client service.

A key aspect of this role will be to contribute energetically to the business development strategy which might include developing external relationships across the region and raising awareness of client work through PR and other means.

As part of a rapidly growing team, this role provides the successful candidate with a fantastic platform to develop their career and build their own personal profile within the region in addition to that of the department.

To be successful in this role you must;

  • Ideally, have post-qualified experience in Medical Negligence and/or child abuse work in a Claimant setting. However, solicitors currently practising in a Defendant firm will be considered.
  • Have a strong appetite for business development, able to build successful relationships with support groups, charities and medical professionals. Existing contacts in the Midlands region would be an advantage.
  • Ideally have experience supervising and developing more junior members of a team.
  • Be able to operate independently and as part of a team to deliver the best outcomes for our clients and develop other team members.
  • Have excellent client care and inter-personal skills, operating with integrity and showing empathy and intuition.

The Benefits

In addition to your competitive basic salary they have an exciting benefits package including a contributory pension scheme, critical illness cover, health cash plan, death in service, discounted legal services, 25 days hols (this increases with length of service), discounted online shopping, season ticket loans, childcare vouchers.

Lipson Lloyd Jones Ltd is acting as an Employment Agency in relation to this vacancy. Please note our advertisements use PQE levels purely as a guide to the minimum level of experience required. However we are happy to consider applications from all candidates who are able to demonstrate the skills necessary to fulfill this kind of work.
