We are currently seeking a Contracts Manager who will support the provision of legal contracts within the General Counsel’s Organization (GCO) mainly for the Global Merchant Services (GMS) business unit in EMEA.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced contracts manager, paralegal or legal assistant to join a collaborative and driven team supporting one of American Express’ most dynamic and evolving business functions in Europe

Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Commercial contract work (e.g. drafting and improving contract templates and process for developing; drafting, review and analysis of agreements and other legal documents, including contracts for services, card acceptance agreements and other business to business commercial contracts);
  • Support in business negotiations;
  • Advising on interpretation of existing agreements;
  • Support new product and extended service development and business re-engineering initiatives;
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of various business initiatives;
  • Conducting legal research on specific points of legal clarification; - providing timely legal support on a wide range of issues to internal/ external clients (including providing advice, participation in meetings, liaising with counterparts in various Amex functions etc.);
  • Implementing and improving methods for legal knowledge management in relation to GCO legal matters, particularly for GMS EMEA, including working with GCO colleagues in other regions and leveraging best practice.

Qualifications

You will be an experienced legal professional either as an experienced contracts manager, tenured paralegal, or legal assistant ideally in-house within a larger organisation.

You will bring:

  • Considerable experience in drafting, negotiating and advising on commercial contracts.
  • Adaptability and flexibility- able to work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision;
  • High energy and multi-tasking - able to manage and prioritise a wide variety of matters and client contacts at once in a fast paced and evolving environment;
  • Team worker – able collaborate, support and provide cover for colleagues as required
  • Proven relationship-management skills;
  • Process-minded - able to help identify and implement improvements in work process to enhance efficiency and productivity of legal work;
  • Technology and capability curiosity required
  • Overall intellectual curiosity and ability to solve problems.
  • Communication skills - able to communicate clearly, effectively and concisely with clients and senior business and GCO management;
  • Attention to detail with an ability to recognize the most significant guiding factors;
  • Analytical skills required;
  • Formal legal training is desirable, but not essential.
