COMMERCIAL CONTRACTS SOLICITOR IP/IT - MANCHESTER 

Commercial Contracts Solicitor IT/IP Manchester – This highly regarded national firm is looking for an ambitious IP/IT Solicitor / Associate to help grow its Manchester offering. The firm advises SMEs to large multi-national companies on a range of commercial matters revolving around IT from website and software agreements including e-commerce to large and often complex IT outsourcing arrangements. The firm also advises on other areas of the digital arena relating to the use of the ‘cloud’.

THE ROLE AT A GLANCE

• Job title: IT/IP Solicitor (1 PQE +)
• Location: Manchester
• Salary: £40,000 - £55,000
• Reports to: Partner (Head of Commercial)
• Previous Experience: Commercial Solicitors with previous IT/IP experience are strongly desired as this is a complex and highly specialised area of law. A minimum of 2 years PQE is ideally sought.

THE CLIENTS AND THE WORK – A SNAPSHOT

The firm offers advice on a vast range of IT/IP – related matters. Software contracts and Software-as-a-service (SaaS) contracts are an obvious example and the department is regularly instructed by companies from start-ups to established listed businesses on the best way to exploit or ‘commercialise’ their various IT assets through software licensing or other such avenues.

The team is also involved in significant outsourcing projects which invariably involve complex agreements so a real technical understanding of this area of commercial law is paramount. E-commerce is another area in which the team has developed particular expertise, including rights in relation to consumers buying online.

Whether its gaming, mobile app or web design companies looking to protect and monetise their latest creations or companies engaging in large-scale outsourcing projects, there is really no shortage of exciting and stimulating work for the right candidate.

KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

The team is ideally looking for an IT/IP solicitor who has already gained a good grounding, so 1 PQE + is generally perceived to be the right level, though this is by no means set in stone.

Our client is looking for talented and creative commercial solicitors with excellent technical understanding and the ability to give effective practical advice. Applicants should be motivated and committed with the ability to work in large or small teams where appropriate. This is also a growing and developing department which invests a considerable amount of time in business development, so candidates should be prepared to take an active role in BD where possible.
