Our Client is looking for an experienced litigation lawyer to to join their team in Brighton and to provide high quality litigation advice at an operational level.

Our Client is the Pensions Regulator.

Description

In this role, you will:

  • advise on high profile, complex and document heavy cases which are brought in the High Court or before the Regulator's Determinations Panel, along with cases which are subject to appeal in the Court of Appeal, Supreme Court or Upper Tribunal

  • provide high quality, clear, pragmatic, and risk-based litigation advice at an operational and strategic level to your internal clients to support case work, policy work and the work of the Regulator's other directorates.

  • advise on the Regulator's statutory powers, and contribute to the development of case strategies, including high profile and complex cases where the use of the Regulator's statutory powers is being considered;

  • communicate effectively and build strong working relationships with all key internal and external stakeholders and colleagues; work collaboratively with other teams across the Regulator to ensure consistency of approach and identify and escalate (to your Lead Lawyer and peers) new/emerging significant legal issues that may be relevant to the Regulator's operational or strategic approach;

  • contribute to knowledge management process; liaise with internal and external professional communities; suggest relevant improvements to team processes;

  • advise on public law risk and support the application of public law principles in the Regulator's ways of working

Profile

The successful candidate will be likely to:

  • Be qualified lawyer with significant experience in the areas relevant to the role as set out above and with current practicing certificate for the UK;

  • Have significant experience in complex commercial or regulatory litigation, and some knowledge of public law;

  • Have experience in developing and implementing case strategies in complex, contentious cases and be experienced in instructing Counsel and working closely with Counsel;

  • Have some knowledge of Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information principles;

  • Have previous experience of, and ability to use, document and case management systems;;

  • Have experience of ADR;

Knowledge of pensions law is an advantage but not essential.
