New vacancy instructions from our leading SW region client.. a firm with an excellent reputation across both their Bristol and Exeter offices.

They are looking to appoint another experienced Planning lawyer who will take a key role within the firm's market-leading Real Estate department and this could be a role to be based in either location according to the candidate's preference.

The department's specialist Planning and Environment team advise clients on how to navigate the Planning system across an array of matters such as major development schemes, compulsory purchase and compensation, strategic land and planning, judicial review of planning decisions, highways and footpaths, SSSI and other specially protected areas, listed buildings, scheduled ancient monuments, tree preservation orders and environmental impact assessments, and plenty more besides. The team's clients include national and regional house builders, commercial developers, government bodies, planning authorities, private sector companies and landed estates so every day is different and a lot of the work is challenging, interesting and high profile.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build on their experience to date working in a really friendly and supportive team across the following type of work:

  • Section 106 agreements.
  • Advice on planning strategy regarding planning applications.
  • Highways agreements, stopping up and diversions.
  • Contentious planning matters.
  • Town and Village Greens.
  • Advising in relation to planning policy and the local plan process.
  • Enforcement
  • Environmental Law

The ideal candidate will have at least five years' experience in Planning and Highways work, ideally gained in a well-respected private or public sector Planning and Environment practice, and this could include contentious Planning work in the form of appeals, judicial review and statutory challenges and advising generally in relation to planning enforcement. Any particular experience of Environmental Law work would also be valuable and welcomed but this isn't an essential requirement of the role so this would be a bonus for the team at this stage.

There is an excellent salary and benefits package to be offered, and there are significant opportunities for further career progression within the department so this is an exciting vacancy for a candidate who is ambitious and keen to develop their own personal profile and reputation within Planning Law circles here in the SW.
