Locum Commercial Contracts Solicitor

A small but long established university legal department in the East Midlands is seeking to add a Commercial Contracts Solicitor to their team on a locum basis. This position is offered for an initial term of two months but it is likely an extension will be given. An attractive hourly rate of £40 per hour is on offer, with the client able to offer up to 40 hours work each week.

This university boasts strong commercial ties to a wide range of global businesses and continues to produce leading research across a huge spectrum of subjects. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in the academic & higher education sector and be willing to draft commercial contracts relating to subject matter from areas as diverse as clinical medicine and sport science. Qualified Solicitors, Barristers and Legal Executives with an in-house background and a solid understanding of IP are encouraged to apply. Candidates should be able to work in a fast paced environment and be able to communicate complex legal processes to all walks of a large business without problem.

Duties will include:

• Advising and guiding academic departments and businesses on a range of commercial contracts with a heavy research based element
• Identifying IP issues, including copyright & patents and opportunities for IP commercialisation
• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating single and multi party collaboration contracts
• Liaising with academic and commercial entities both domestic and international
• Negotiating terms and conditions
• Composing template agreements and letters

The client is happy to consider many working patterns including agile working and is not averse to part time hours. The department is relaxed and friendly and is happy to discuss working arrangements with candidates during interview. University amenities will be open to the successful candidate, including gym facilities.
