Locum Childcare Solicitor

Venn Group is now recruiting for a Qualified Childcare Lawyer to join a personable local authority in the East Midlands. This is a long term contract where the successful applicant can expect to be post for at least 6 months.

Our client is seeking an experienced and qualified Lawyer who can provide a comprehensive legal service to the council without supervision. Applicants must have recent, and in depth knowledge of Childcare law and be able to advise social services in respect of children, young people, safeguarding and judicial review challenges. Good written and communication skills are of great importance to the post as is strong advocacy sills. The ideal candidate will be a strong negotiator and be able to adapt to new and differing procedures without complaint. Out of hours attendance for emergency work may be required so applicants should be flexible in their approach to their work. The successful applicant will also be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check upon offer of employment.

Duties will include:

• Managing a full child protection caseload of care pre-proceedings matters
• Drafting and issuing applications for the full range of child law applications and proceedings, including interim care orders, secure accommodation orders, emergency protections orders, direction hearings, case management conferences, issues resolution hearings and final hearings for care and placement orders
• Undertaking complex advocacy at all levels including at the Magistrates' Court, County Court and High Court
• Standing before Magistrates, District Judges and Circuit Judges in the Family Court including for contested matters
• Providing legal advice to social workers at legal planning meetings and to the client departments at all levels
• Preparing s. 31 cases ready for issuing with the Court
• Liaising with other parties including solicitors and experts to progress cases
• Attending Legal Planning Meeting Panels to provide advice on specific matters
• Conducting hearings to include Contested and Final Contested

An hourly rate between £27 and £40 per hour is offered dependant upon experience.
