Our client is a strong regional firm that is a market leader within their specialist sectors; charities and social business, local government and regeneration, social housing, education, health and social care, and private legal services. Based in Birmingham, they have a national client base and a team of lawyers who are genuinely passionate about the work that they do. Their approach is built on long term relationships with clients and they can demonstrate this through their established client base.

They are looking for a Solicitor (from 2/3 years pqe) to help continue to grow the commercial offering with a particular focus on data protection matters. This is also an opportunity to work with a group of colleagues across disciplines to drive forward their expertise working with an established and growing client base. Role specific information:

As part of a nationally and regionally recognised department, support and grow the commercial offering including the data protection work they undertake; in particular, to assist a cross-department team in driving forward the data protection expertise, working with clients in both the public and private sector.

Role specific duties:

  • Supporting clients in relation to data protection and other commercial advice
  • Running a range of data protection matters, including advising on all data protection and Freedom of Information issues
  • Supporting and advising other fee earners on such matters and issues
  • Delivering advice to clients, and those supporting the clients, using plain English and seeking pragmatic solutions in a way that ensures they are trusted advisers
  • Supporting the team and the firm in raising its profile in its specialist market places through appropriate business development activities

Role specific competencies:

  • Previous experience of advising clients in relation to data protection and Freedom of Information and broader commercial matters
  • Ability to collaborate and work as part of a team, instructing solicitors, legal assistants and trainees, and being supervised by senior fee earners
  • Ability and desire to develop technical legal skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build rapport with a variety of 'clients', both external and internal, and inspire and hold their confidence
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to cope well with tight deadlines and under pressure

Strong self-motivation and proactivity, and confident to use your own initiative where appropriate to deliver consistently high-quality work that meets the client's needs
